Why has my mesh operation been cancelled?
Mesh operations for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) have been cancelled after the Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review, chaired by Baroness Julia Cumberlege, called for an immediate pause of its usage until “a set of conditions to mitigate the risks of injury are met”. Visit the Review’s website for more information.
What’s wrong with mesh?
Baroness Julia Cumberlege said that “we have not seen evidence on the benefits of mesh that outweighs the severity of human suffering caused by mesh complications.”
You can find more information about mesh in our campaign Patients Before Profits: Let’s Help Sling the Mesh, calling for the suspension of its use from all operations.
What other options do I have to manage my stress urinary incontinence?
You should seek medical advice about solutions and remedies for SUI. Campaign group Sling The Mesh has a wealth of information about alternative options.
