For its 15th consecutive year, Mesothelioma UK will once again be hosting its Patient and Carer Day, but with one crucial difference – for the first time, it will be held virtually.

The event, taking place on Friday 2 October, sees people from different specialisms come together in one place and discuss the latest developments in the fight against the asbestos cancer, mesothelioma. Patients and families are invited to attend the event, which is designed to provide the practical and emotional support they so desperately need.

The virtual event this year makes it more accessible than ever for those who normally wouldn’t be able to attend due to the travel restrictions imposed on them by their illness.

Thompsons Solicitors is sponsoring the immunotherapy session, the second session of the day, which will be led by Alan Melcher, a clinician scientist at the Institute of Cancer Research.

Tony Hood, national head of asbestos strategy at the firm, commented: “People who attend the Patient and Carer Day witness first hand what’s being done to tackle this devastating cancer.

“Immunotherapy treatments, especially those currently unavailable on the NHS, are of particular interest to our clients and often why many people seek our expertise in pursuing legal action against their former employers. The advances in immunotherapy treatments and the options it opens up to mesothelioma patients are incredible to witness and why, as a firm, we’ve chosen this particular session to sponsor.”
