Based at Thompsons Solicitors’ head office in London, Clare has been the operations director at the firm since July 2015 and is a member of the firm’s Executive Board. In her role, she is involved in leading and managing the firm’s delivery plan to secure its future in terms of growth, strength and the quality of the service it provides to its clients.
On a day-to-day basis, she is responsible for ensuring that all Thompsons’ offices are operating at their optimum capacity. This includes ensuring that branch managers in each of the offices play their role in delivering the firm’s objectives. Clare manages all aspects of the managers’ performance and regularly appraises them. She meets up with them monthly in order to talk through any problems or concerns they may have.
As Head of Legal Practice, Clare is also responsible for ensuring that Thompsons complies with all its regulatory and professional obligations with the external body that sets standards for the profession – the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Prior to becoming the operations director, Clare worked as a branch manager, initially in the London region and then the south east network of offices. This involved delivering the firm’s strategic objectives and ensuring she stayed within budget at a branch level. She was also responsible for developing client relations.
After qualifying as a lawyer in 1996, Clare worked in a number of high street firms as a personal injury lawyer. She then joined Thompsons in 2001, attracted by its ethic of only working for employees and trade unions, not employers or insurers.
