Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, reservists, veterans, and their families.
The Royal British Legion offers a variety of advice and support to ex-Service personnel including:
- Financial advice
- Housing advice
- Advice on independent living
- Social support
- Physical health and mental wellbeing
Injured military personnel can also work with the Royal British Legion to secure financial compensation if they go on to develop illness or injury as a result of their Service. David Robinson, a military accident claims specialist at Thompsons, is one of a limited number of solicitors part of the Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group. He was exceptionally proud when he and his colleagues in the Group were awarded the ‘Legal Services Team of the Year’ accolade at the 2016 Claims Innovation Awards.
The Group was established in 1989 by a small selection of British solicitors, including former Thompsons’ Member Andy McDonald MP, with a passion to represent members of the Armed Forces and their families. The group aims to provide ex-military personnel with legal support and assistance following injuries in training and combat.
Since its establishment, the group has fought for the rights of military personnel in Bosnia, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. It also played a key role in providing evidence for the recent House of Commons enquiry into the care of military personnel during training exercises.
