Victim support groups have existed since the 1990s.
Formed by campaigners who had long-fought to raise awareness of the hazardous nature of asbestos among industry, government and health and safety bodies, the groups sought to help families and communities make sense of the devastating legacy of asbestos disease left by the UK’s manufacturing, construction and other industry.
The Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum was established in 2005 to help groups to meet, share issues of common concern and take collective action on behalf of the victims of asbestos-related disease.
Thompsons is proud to play an active role in supporting the Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum and the individual regional asbestos victim support groups based across the UK.
If you would like to contact an asbestos victim support group in your area, the Forum’s website has a list of local contacts and information.
Many groups provide specialist advice, support and information alongside their campaigning, to raise awareness and funds for vital research into the treatment of asbestos-related disease.
