Ceri started her qualified career in 2003 acting for people who had suffered injuries as a result of an accident at work, in road traffic collisions or from falls on public highways. She later developed an additional specialism in clinical negligence which involved acting for patients who had suffered injuries following a medical accident and subsequently gained Accreditation from the Law Society as being a specialist in the field of clinical negligence. Since then, she has successfully concluded many hundreds of clinical negligence claims for people who have suffered injuries, and for families who have lost their loved ones due to a medical accident. Ceri’s experience is wide ranging, from acting for people who have faced a terminal diagnosis as a result of a late diagnosis, to those who have sustained injuries from sub-standard surgery, or mis-management of a known medical condition. She has acted for people with spinal injuries, brain injuries, injuries to the endocrine and gynaecological organs and more.

Ceri is best known for her experience in acting for patients who have suffered sub-standard medical care in relation to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Frequently, a late diagnosis of cancer will lead to a poor prognosis and a short life expectancy, and Ceri has significant experience in representing families who have lost a loved one as a result of this.

Ceri works with leading medical experts to fight her cases and access justice for her clients. Often, clients are motivated by a need to make sure that no other patient has to experience the poor care that they did, and Ceri will encourage medical policies and protocols to be changed to avoid mistakes being repeated and to improve patient safety. Where possible, Ceri will extract an apology from the medical organisation or individual who has let them down. She will also fight for fair compensation to put the patient back in the position that they would have been in had their medical mistake not had happened, in so far as monetary compensation will allow. She will arrange for funded rehabilitation, prosthetics, therapy etc to support her clients.

Like our other lawyers at Thompsons, Ceri has only ever acted for the victims of negligence, rather than defending claims bought against those who were negligent in causing injuries.

Such is her excellence, that other lawyers (including Judges) and doctors recommend Ceri and her team to represent their friends and families in the event of a medical accident. Her clients speak highly of Ceri, describing her as fiercely loyal to her clients, kind, patient and always going the extra mile to access justice for them.

One barrister said about Ceri:

“Service is a combination of the upmost professionalism, being responsive and empathetic to what can often be difficult circumstances and a genuine drive to achieve the best outcome for her clients…”

When her children were young, she held volunteer roles as Secretary and then Treasurer for the school PTA committees. She has also volunteered as a Trustee for a disability charity. Over the years, she has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities that are close to her heart, including running several marathons! She also enjoys running, paddle boarding, playing squash, and most of all, spending time with her family, at their home in Somerset.
