The Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group has been awarded the title of Legal Services Team of the Year at the Claims Innovation Awards, for its work in supporting victims of military injury.

David Robinson, military claims specialist at Thompsons Solicitors and member of the Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group, attended the annual ceremony, which took place in Manchester on 09 June 2016, to accept the award.

The Legal Services Team of the Year award recognises the work of groups fulfilling their role in ensuring victims of personal injury are provided with access to justice.

The Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group was established in 1989 by a small selection of British solicitors, including former Thompsons’ Member Andy McDonald MP, with a passion to represent members of the Armed Forces and their families. The group aims to provide ex-military personnel with legal support and assistance following injuries in training and combat.

Since its establishment, the group has fought for the rights of military personnel in Bosnia, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. It also played a key role in providing evidence for the recent House of Commons enquiry into the care of military personnel during training exercises.

David Robinson has experience representing clients in a number of high profile military cases, including representation in the Court of Appeal. In 2015 he was awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year Honours’ List for his community work and his commitment to assisting military personnel.

He said: “At Thompsons Solicitors we are proud to stand up for military personnel and staff who suffer life-changing injuries and understand the long-lasting psychological effects many victims endure far beyond their physical recovery.

“The Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group offers vital support to injured military personnel and their families, and as a member I am proud to see the group recognised and rewarded at the 2016 Claims Innovation Awards.”
