Staff in the Manchester office of Thompsons Solicitors put on their hats to raise money for Headway, the brain injury charity raising £250. The annual ‘Hats for Headway’ fundraising event aims to raise vital funds for Headway, who give help and support to those affected by brain injury.

Manchester staff brought their hats into work, made donations, had a raffle and put their hands in their pockets to raise funds for Headway Preston and Chorley. There was also a prize for best hat. This event was a fantastic opportunity to engage staff in the vital work of Headway across the UK, while at the same time raising awareness of brain injury and its devastating effects.

Importance of supporting Headway

Each year, around 1.4 million people attend hospital A&E departments in the UK following head injury.

Statistics from NHS Primary Care Trust (2008/9) indicate that Preston was top of the north west league table for incidence of admission to hospital with head injury (people aged 16 -74) followed closely by Liverpool and Oldham.

The cuts threaten the ability of Headway to provide support to those affected by brain injury, it has never been more important to support Headway Groups and Branches to shout about the vital role they play in supporting vulnerable people within their communities.
