Rodney passed away after developing mesothelioma
The family of a former fire officer is appealing for information about his workplace conditions following his premature death from the fatal asbestos-related disease, mesothelioma.
Rodney Hinde, from Chester, died in March 2014 after developing mesothelioma, which was diagnosed after his death.
Between 1964 and 1969, Rodney was employed as a fireman by Broughton-based aircraft manufacturer, Hawker Siddeley, and he later worked as a fire and safety officer at the Bowater Factory in Ellesmere Port from 1975 to 2003.
Following Rodney’s death, his family contacted Thompsons Solicitors for advice.
The family are urging Rodney’s former colleagues or anyone with information about the working conditions at Hawker Siddeley and the Bowater Factory to come forward to assist Thompsons’ investigation of the case.
Rodney’s wife, Joyce, said: “My husband was a fit and healthy man, so when his health started to deteriorate, I was very worried.
“It’s been incredibly difficult to try and come to terms with the circumstances surrounding my husband’s death, but the support of the Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group and Thompsons has been extremely helpful, as I’ve had access to specialist advice when I’ve needed it.
“Rodney spent almost four decades working at the sites in Broughton and Ellesmere Port, so we’re hopeful that someone will have information that will help us find answers and, in turn, closure to what has happened.”
