Commenting on her appointment, Mrs Johnstone said: “Ever since I started working in the legal sector, Thompsons Solicitors has been a prominent name – well-respected for its work with trade unions and for wanting to ‘do the right thing’ for injured or mistreated people. To leave a firm I had been with for 18 years was no easy decision but when I saw this opportunity at Thompsons I knew it was too good to pass up.

“I’m excited to bring my expertise and experience of dealing with a wide range of personal injury cases to Thompsons. I am looking forward to upskilling the next generation of lawyers to ensure they are not only excellent lawyers but confident communicators.”

Clare Mellor, chief executive of Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Karen’s appointment builds on other recent key senior hires and develops and expands our talent base, showcasing that despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, our continual drive to enhance the high-quality legal service we are known for has not let up.

“Karen spearheaded paperless and remote working initiatives in her previous firm years before the pandemic made them a necessity. That forward thinking drive for best practice is always welcome at Thompsons as we continue the fight for social justice, safeguarding and enhancing people’s rights, which have been at the heart of the firm throughout our 100-year history.”
