Linda, the national practice lead for medical negligence and partner at Thompsons Solicitors has been shortlisted in the Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice category.

The award recognises the outstanding contribution made by a solicitor working in private practice, along with their professionalism and commitment in all that they do. The winner of the award will be announced at The Law Society’s award ceremony in October 2018.

A determined and highly successful litigator, Linda has been handling medical negligence claims for more than 20 years and has secured multimillion pounds in damages for her clients. She also oversees all of Thompsons’ medical negligence teams in England and Wales.

Linda played a pivotal role in negotiating a £37 million settlement on behalf of hundreds of women and men who were affected by actions of negligent breast surgeon Ian Paterson, who had been carrying out unnecessary surgical procedures and operations on patients referred to him for private treatment at a hospital run by Spire Healthcare.

The firm acted for more than 700 Paterson victims, and Linda led the medical negligence team in supporting clients while leading in the civil litigation and securing justice for Paterson victims. Learn more about the Paterson case here.

Following the Paterson case, Linda has been working with hundreds of victims of mesh, acting in compensation cases for those who are suffering complications as a result of TVT, rectopexy and other mesh implants. She has been instrumental in leading the Patient Before Profits: Let’s Help Sling The Mesh campaign, calling for complete and immediate ban of all mesh procedures.

Michelle Cronin, Head of People, Finance and Infrastructure at Thompsons Solicitors said: “We’re absolutely delighted for Linda. She thoroughly deserves to be shortlisted for Solicitor of the Year by the Law Society, for her tireless efforts to secure justice for hundreds of Paterson victims and her ongoing work for all of our clients who have suffered medical negligence.

“Linda has been a fearless champion of injured patients and is now overseeing our #PatientsBeforeProfits campaign to support mesh victims. We are very proud of Linda’s achievements and we wish her the very best of luck at the awards!”
