Responding to the report, Gerard Stilliard, the partner heading the team at Thompsons Solicitors, representing the FBU and its firefighter members in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, said:

"Today serves as a poignant reminder of the 72 individuals who sadly lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire and of the profound impact that the tragedy continues to have on those who were injured and the wider community.

“We are incredibly proud to have supported the FBU and its London firefighter members throughout this long and challenging process, both during the inquiry and in securing compensation for over one hundred injured FBU members.

“The responsibility now lies with the new Labour government to collaborate with the FBU, the Grenfell community, and others to ensure the inquiry's recommendations are thoroughly considered and implemented where appropriate. We must avoid handing power back to the people who were responsible for the disaster in the first place.

“As inquiry lawyers, we are particularly pleased that the Grenfell Tower Inquiry has endorsed our submissions to make it a legal requirement for the government to maintain a publicly accessible record of recommendations made by select committees, coroners, and public inquiries together with a description of the steps taken in response.

“Whilst such a policy cannot turn back the clock, it could prove invaluable in ensuring essential lessons are learnt to prevent such tragedies from ever occurring again.”
