A maintenance engineer secured compensation after being injured in a collision in Southwest London, with the court awarding significantly more than the insurer’s initial offer.Â
David was cycling when a car struck him as he was preparing to turn right. The force of the collision split the frame of his bicycle, throwing him to the ground, with the bike landing on top of him.Â
Part of the damaged bike punctured his left thigh, causing a deep wound.Â
Â
David was taken to hospital by ambulance. While X-rays confirmed there were no fractures, he had suffered nerve damage and required cleaning and stitching of his wounds. Â
With osteopathic treatment, David gradually recovered. However, he has been left with a permanent scar and ongoing numbness in his leg.Â
The psychological impact was also significant—David was left too afraid to return to cycling, something he found particularly upsetting.Â
Â
Although liability was accepted, the driver’s insurers refused to make a settlement offer that properly reflected David’s injuries and losses.Â
On Thompsons’ advice, David agreed to pursue court proceedings to ensure fair compensation was awarded.Â
Â
The court awarded David just over £6,000 in damages—£2,500 more than the insurer’s best pre-trial offer.Â
The award included compensation for his injuries as well as the full cost of replacing his bike and damaged cycling equipment.Â
Â
This case demonstrates the importance of challenging inadequate insurer offers. With the right legal support, injured cyclists can secure the compensation they are entitled to.Â
