With 14 years’ personal injury experience, Jackie joined the highly-regarded asbestos disease team five years’ ago. Dealing solely with all asbestos related disease claims that come into the London office, Jackie’s knowledge and expertise of the progress of such diseases, enables her to gain the best possible compensation for her clients. Her case-load includes claims for asbestos related diseases such as pleural thickening, asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
A diagnosis of an asbestos related illness can be traumatic and devastating for clients and their families. Jackie approaches them with compassionate professionalism, guiding them through the High Court process, visiting them at home, patiently explaining all the options, getting the best medical advice and negotiating interim payments.
Although Jackie aims to reach settlement during the lifetime of clients, many cases can take time and continue after their death. Jackie’s sensitivity in dealing with bereaved members of the family and her care for their welfare is highly valued.
As a determined champion of the rights of her clients and their families, Jackie will pursue, doggedly, employers and insurance companies who deny liability and seek to shirk their responsibilities. As exposure to asbestos usually manifests itself as a disease 40 to 50 years down the line, tracking down companies that may be defunct or taken over or their liability insurers requires Jackie’s excellent detective skills. Jackie never gives up.
Thompsons ethos of working only for individuals, is what Jackie say allows her and colleagues to achieve a good outcome for clients as they always go the extra mile.
When not at work, Jackie likes to go to the theatre, the cinema, socialise with friends, and caring for her three cats.
Jackie's case experience
As a young boy, Mr A had a Saturday job in a factory that manufactured asbestos products. He made tea and coffee and swept up asbestos leavings/debris. Years later he was diagnosed with fatal mesothelioma. He started off the claim himself, but Thompsons Solicitors took it over and Jackie handled it. Mr A sadly died before compensation was awarded, but he knew his claim would be settled and Jackie continued with his executor to finalise it.
At the High Court, Jackie successfully argued in a very difficult pleural thickening case involving Mr B who had contracted and subsequently died from mesothelioma. His former employers disputed liability and causation. However, Jackie succeeded in winning substantial damages for his surviving sister.
Jackie is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
Mr D, a Thompsons’ Solicitors personal injury client, said: “I was very pleased with the service I received from Thompsons, I dealt with Jackie Wood and found her to be very professional and also very caring. What could have been an extremely difficult process Jackie made manageable and as stress free as possible. I was guided through the whole process kept up to date on a regular basis by letter, phone and emails. Nothing was too much trouble.”
