Gemma Jones is the first point of contact for medical negligence claims at Thompsons Solicitors’ Cardiff office, working for clients across Wales and the South West

Gemma is an experienced paralegal and, in her time at Thompsons, she has worked in the employment rights and the serious injury teams.

Having now specialised in clinical negligence claims, Gemma deals with all of the NHS Redress cases that come to the firm. She also has initial discussions with clients to identify the cause of their claim, explain what is required to make it successful, about funding and which specialists in the team may be best able to assist them. Years of experience means that Gemma is a great listener and faultlessly patient with clients who have often undergone complex treatment and experienced considerable pain and anguish because of clinical errors.

Early and honest advice about prospects of success is a watchword at Thompsons, and having taken the key information from the client, who may be suffering from a range of physical, dental and psychological injuries, there will be a team assessment of whether the claim is likely to succeed.

Gemma’s role once a case is taken on includes reviewing medical records, advising on NHS complaints procedures, assessing official replies to complaints already made and commissioning appropriate experts to support a claim. She both arranges and participates in conferences with specialist barristers.

Gemma puts her longstanding loyalty to Thompsons down to the firm’s vision and values of only ever representing those injured through no fault of their own.

Away from work Gemma enjoys spending time with her family and is actively involved with Headway Cardiff.
