Personal injury specialist Phil is the national practice lead for Thompsons Solicitors’ Multi-track Accident Team (MAT) and the team’s senior supervisor in the north-west of England.

Qualifying as solicitor in 1998, Phil uses his wealth of legal knowledge and experience to expertly handle high-value cases of up to seven figures which include head injuries, amputations, fatal accidents, multiple orthopaedic injuries, psychiatric and chronic pain conditions.

As the MAT senior supervisor, Phil is responsible for a team of 10 lawyers working on cases with a value of between £25,000 and £500,000.

Phil’s main focus, whether providing individual legal representation or leading MAT, is to ensure that the client's interests always come first.

For Phil, this means maximising compensation, the provision of rehabilitation at the earliest possible opportunity and building a relationship based on trust and understanding with clients.

Phil is acutely aware of, and sensitive to, the life changing nature of the injuries many Thompsons' clients have suffered and that these often have physical, psychological and financial impacts on both them and their families.

The most rewarding thing about working at Thompsons for Phil is being able to make a real difference to the lives of his clients and their loved ones when they need it most.

Outside of work, Phil is a keen cyclist.

Phil’s case experience

Serious injury claim: Phil represented a firefighter who suffered life changing injuries after he went into a burning house to rescue a family. A claim was made against his client’s employer and the case eventually settled for £2.2 million, the biggest ever settlement for a UK firefighter.

Injury at work claim: A worker at a recycling plant had his hand crushed by machinery and needed a partial amputation. Liability was denied and the case was only won after a three day trial. Phil secured £500,000 compensation for his client from the employer.

A former Thompsons’ client and firefighter said: "Thanks for your tireless work and support Phil, you've been our rock and mentor, guiding us through this difficult period and steering us to this fantastic outcome."

Another of Phil’s former clients said: "I would like to thank Philip Liptrot for the support he gave me over the years while my case was being sorted. I would not have not got through it without him.”
