Mesothelioma UK has appointed Thompsons to its panel of specialist asbestos disease firms
A social justice law firm has secured a coveted place on the Mesothelioma UK legal panel in recognition of its significant expertise in fighting for the rights of asbestos victims.
Thompsons Solicitors has an unparalleled record in asbestos disease litigation, having paved the way for asbestos litigation in the UK after winning the first-ever successful asbestos disease claim in the House of Lords in 1972, and supported tens of thousands of families who have been affected by asbestos diseases, such as mesothelioma.
It is one of just a handful of specialist firms that have demonstrated sufficient experience and a track record of success in asbestos litigation claims to be recommended by Mesothelioma UK.
Helen Tomlin, a specialist asbestos solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Thompsons has a long history of fighting for the injured, being proven as specialists in asbestos litigation through our strong links with the trade union movement and the Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum UK, among others.
“Our accreditation with Mesothelioma UK confirms our status as a leading, specialist firm.”
Mesothelioma is a devastating and fatal form of cancer caused by breathing in asbestos dust. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), almost 50,000 men and almost 9,000 women died of the disease between 1981 – 2017. Today, on average 2,500 lives are lost to mesothelioma in the UK each year, many as a result of exposure to asbestos decades before, especially those who worked in industrial or manual roles.
Between 2015 and 2018, Thompsons Solicitors secured more than £125 million for asbestos disease victims across the UK.
Ms Tomlin: “It is our privilege to act for victims of asbestos disease, securing them legal recourse, and we look forward to working with Mesothelioma UK to continue to represent those families because, in reality, the fight against asbestos is not over.”
