Lawyers representing a former Carlisle joiner who has been diagnosed with an asbestos related cancer have appealed to his former colleagues to come forward with information in an effort to secure compensation that could fund further life-extending treatment.
Thompsons Solicitors is representing a local 71-year-old father of two who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2024, a cancer attributed to occupational exposure to asbestos, which often takes place decades before symptoms arise.
While there is sadly no cure for his condition the man, who has asked not to be named, is presently undergoing immunotherapy treatment, and is hoping to secure compensation that will fund further care that will help extend his life, but which is not available to him on the NHS.
His legal team, led by Stuart Latham from Thompsons Solicitors Newcastle office, is looking to speak to anyone who may have worked alongside him as a joiner in the 60s, 70s and 80s when he was manufacturing fire doors, and other products such as window frames, doors, stairs and kitchen cabinets.
The firm is particularly keen to speak to anyone who worked in the “joinery shop” area of Eden Joinery, also known as Eden Construction Ltd, which was based in Carlisle between 1969 and 1992 when it ceased trading.
Commenting on the appeal Stuart Latham from Thompsons, said: “This has been a very difficult time for our client who is still coming to terms with his diagnosis whilst also undergoing treatment to help manage the acceleration of his symptoms.
We are now looking to secure compensation for him that would help fund further treatment that could help to extend his life expectancy and would be very keen to speak to anyone who worked alongside him over the years who may have vital information.”
