The incident occurred after a man, who had been involved in a violent confrontation, fled the scene in a car. Driving recklessly through the car park, he struck the woman who was not involved in the initial incident, running over her foot and leaving her with significant injuries that required surgery.

The woman pursued a compensation claim against the driver, represented by Thompsons Solicitors and supported by her union.

She has now settled her claim, providing her with the resources needed to attempt to rebuild her life following the ordeal and to receive ongoing treatment for her injuries, which have led to further operations and have resulted in chronic pain syndrome and arthritis.

The driver involved pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, and other offences. He was subsequently sentenced to prison for the hit-and-run incident.

The compensation settlement reflects the significant impact that the injuries had on the woman’s ability to work following the incident, as well as her rehabilitation and care costs.

Commenting on the outcome of the case, the woman, who does not want to be identified, expressed her gratitude for the support she received throughout her legal battle, saying: “The road to recovery has been and continues to be, incredibly tough, but I’m so thankful for the support I’ve had from both my Union and Thompsons Solicitors throughout this process.”

Andrew Smith, from the personal injury team in the Leeds Office of the national law firm Thompsons Solicitors who represented the woman, emphasised the importance of obtaining expert legal representation in such cases: “Sadly, our client was significantly injured due to another person’s reckless and criminal actions.

“This case highlights the importance of specialist legal representation in securing justice for victims of traumatic incidents. We are pleased to have achieved a settlement that will significantly aid our client’s recovery and help her move forward.”
