Corporate health and safety performance indicator

Our Scottish office has reported that the HSE has launched a Corporate Health and Safety Performance Indicator (CHaSPI). This is a web-based tool designed to help organisations with over 250 employees get a measure of the effectiveness of their internal controls over health and safety, and benchmark their performance against their own targets and the performance of their peers.

The index works by asking a series of questions on, for example, health and safety management and sickness absence rates. A score out of 10 is then calculated. Although in its early stage, it may assist safety representatives and others to review performance on occupational health and safety using a set of leading and lagging indicators.
