In this week’s case we acted for a client who was struck by a vehicle whilst walking her dog and crossing the entrance to a site.

After initially trying to argue that our client was partly responsible we secured a full admission of fault from the driver’s insurance company. However, the insurance company then went on to dispute the amount of compensation which our client should receive and failed to deliver a settlement suitable for our client. The case then proceeded to a hearing before a Judge.

The Judge listened to all of the evidence and heard from our client, and he then made an award of compensation which was significantly more than the insurance company had offered to pay pre-trial.

Speaking after the Judge’s decision the solicitor from Thompsons Solicitors said: “This case shows that at Thompsons Solicitors we have the experience and expertise to know when to accept an offer, and when an offer is inadequate. The level of compensation awarded by the Judge was almost exactly what we had previously advised to the insurance company, but it had refused.”
