Thompsons Solicitors has backed an initiative to promote safety on the roads.

Thompsons, the most experienced personal injury firm in the UK, is backing Brake’s Road Safety Week this week (Monday, November 10 to Sunday, November 16).

The event is aimed to raise awareness about road safety to help prevent the number of deaths caused by accidents.

Thompsons Solicitors has helped thousands of road accident victims to claim compensation. Many of its specialist legal advisers are members of the Motor Accident Solicitors’ Society (MASS).

Stay Safe whether driving, cycling or walking

During Road Safety Week Thompsons will be providing clients with information on how to stay safe on the roads, whether they are driving, cycling or walking.

According to statistics from the Department of Transport in 2007 there were 247,780 reported injuries of all severities caused by accidents on the road. Almost 3,000 people were killed and 27,774 were seriously injured.

The Government plans to reduce the number of road accidents significantly by 2010.

Failing to look properly is the most frequently reported contributory factor in 35% of all accidents. While in fatal accidents the most frequently reported contributory factor was loss of control of the vehicle, which was involved in 33% of fatal accidents.

Compensation for Road Accident Victims

Thompsons Solicitors helps to secure compensation for accident victims and their families to help them pay for treatment and adaptations to their homes.

National Head of Personal Injury at Thompsons Solicitors, Judith Gledhill said: “Road Safety Week is an important initiative to raise awareness about the dangers on our roads.

“I have represented many road traffic accident victims and their families. They all share the same wish that the accident had never happened in the first place.

“If all drivers took more care and consideration while behind the wheel we would see a reduction in the number of unnecessary deaths on the roads.

“Basic measures like sticking to the speed limit, checking your mirrors and concentrating fully on your driving can mean the difference between a safe journey and an accident.”

Brake’s Road Safety Week is highlighting the need for drivers to stop and imagine how horrendous it would be to lose a loved one in a road crash. It is asking people to commit more time to look twice at junctions, to never overtake unless it’s totally safe and to holding your children’s hands while walking on the road side.
