A finance professional from Derby has received more than £5,300 in compensation after injuring his foot abroad.

“I wouldn’t have been able to start a claim without Thompsons Solicitors’ legal advice. I’m so grateful for everything they did for me.”

Stephen Davis accident abroad client

Stephen Davis, 58, was walking along a wooden jetty at the Aegean Dream Resort Hotel in Turkey when it collapsed beneath him, causing his left leg to fall through the gap.

He was taken to hospital, where it was found he had fractured a toe on his left foot. For the remainder of his holiday, Stephen couldn’t swim or walk long distances.

After returning home, he had further hospital treatment and continued to suffer pain for nearly two months. His toe has been permanently bent and he has discomfort in cold weather.

Stephen turned to Thompsons Solicitors to pursue an accident abroad compensation claim. The firm’s personal injury solicitors argued that the hotel operator was aware of the jetty’s poor condition but had failed to repair it. The jetty was fixed immediately after Stephen’s accident.

Thompsons Solicitors’ foreign accident specialists ensured the hotel operator was held accountable and secured compensation for Stephen to cover the cost of his treatments and the pain he suffered.

He said: “We’d only been at the resort one day when I injured my toe, so it meant the rest of my holiday was ruined. My wife and I had been looking forward to our trip abroad for months, but our plans of long walks and swimming in the pool never happened as I had my foot bandaged up.

“The injury made doing my job more difficult when I got home, as travelling to work and walking around the office was very painful after the accident.

Sarah Gardner, of Thompsons Solicitors, said: “In this case it was clear the hotel operator knew it was at fault because as soon as the accident was reported the jetty was repaired. It should not have taken Stephen to suffer injury and have a ruined holiday, for an obvious hazard to get fixed.
