Fiona started as a newly qualified solicitor with Thompsons Solicitors in 2003. She has built a strong regional reputation for representing clients across Cumbria, Yorkshire & Humberside, and the North East from the firm’s Newcastle office on Grainger Street in the heart of Newcastle.

Fiona joins a strong group of women leaders at Thompsons, embodying the firm’s commitment to professional growth and advancement. As a participant in the firm’s Amplify Partnership program, designed to support women partners, Fiona has quickly advanced, demonstrating her expertise and leadership skills.

This year, the Thompsons Solicitors’ North East personal injury and clinical negligence team, led by Fiona,  achieved a band-one ranking in the independent legal directory Legal 500. Her work over many years within the team contributed to the care provided to thousands of individuals and their families by securing justice and essential compensation.

Thompsons has 18 offices across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with an associated firm in Scotland. It is the UK’s largest trade union law firm, representing millions of union members, unions, and non-union members. Founded in 1921, it has grown with the trade union and labour movement as a champion for social justice.

Thompsons remains deeply embedded in the fight for workers’ rights in the North East, particularly in specialist areas such as employment law for union members, asbestos-related disease claims, serious injury claims, and clinical negligence claims.

Reflecting on her appointment, Fiona said:

“I’m honoured to step into this role, leading such a talented and dedicated team who all share a steadfast commitment to justice. Together, we will continue to work with the proud trade unionists in this region and all those injured or mistreated to ensure they receive the legal support they need and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

“Thompsons has always stood as a champion for the rights of the injured and vulnerable, and I am proud to continue that mission, supporting those who need it most in the North East.”

Clare Mellor, Chief Executive of Thompsons Solicitors, said:

“Fiona’s extensive experience in serious injury and medical negligence, combined with her dedication to securing justice for clients, makes her an ideal fit for this role. She has consistently shown her passion for helping individuals and families through challenging times and her commitment to the North East.

“I am confident that, under her leadership, our North East team will continue to thrive and make a meaningful impact on the region and the lives of those we are here to support.”
