A 25 and 27 year old have been arrested following a three-car crash, which killed two young people, on East Lancashire Road yesterday.

Nineteen year old Aaron Tulsa Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 22 year old girlfriend, Amy Louise Hobson, suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital, after the car they were travelling in collided with an Audi RS3 and an Audi S3.

The two men both driving Audis have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and are believed to have been racing each other at the time of the crash. They are currently in police custody for questioning.

David Robinson, a specialist serious road traffic accident solicitor at Thompsons’ Newcastle office, commented: “This is a tragic accident that has claimed the lives of two people who had their whole future ahead of them.

“While we are yet to know the exact details of what happened in this case, it appears that the two men were racing each other which, if true, showed no consideration for other road users, and is nothing but reckless.

“Driving is the most dangerous thing that most of us do on a regular basis, and, at Thompsons, we know road traffic accidents happen all too often. Driving requires extra vigilance, not idiocy, only that way can we hopefully avoid serious and life-changing injuries, or, in the worst cases, fatalities."

Anyone with information on the accident is being asked to call the police’s serious collision investigation unit on 0161 856 4741.
