Andrew Yaw has dealt with a wide range of complicated medical negligence and personal injury cases on behalf of Thompsons Solicitors. During his 16-year career as a qualified solicitor, Andrew has exclusively represented claimants, rather than insurance companies, organisations or individuals who might be responsible for their injuries. Based in Manchester, Andrew has represented clients drawn from all over the North West of England.

Andrew has concentrated on clinical negligence cases in recent years, many of which have involved serious injury and sometimes death.

Andrew was involved in two cases that involved fatalities. One was a failure to treat the bacterial skin infection cellulitis, and another where medical staff had failed to remove stiches following an operation, which led to infection and septic shock.

Other cases involved failure to offer adequate treatment for acute appendicitis, which led to a perforated gangrenous appendix and peritonitis. Andrew has also dealt with cases involving dental surgeons, ophthalmologists and other specialist medical staff.

Andrew points out that Thompsons is prepared to fight on behalf of its clients even when faced with defendants with the cash and resources to place major obstacles in the way of the client’s access to justice. Andrew points to Thompsons’ insistence on exclusively representing claimants as one of the key reasons for his loyalty to the firm. He believes Thompsons enables him make a “positive difference” to those who have lost loved ones and to those who have suffered life-changing injuries. Andrew uses his experience to secure the highest possible compensation, either through negotiation or through court proceedings.

Andrew relaxes away from work by spending time with his family, in particular by watching his boys participate in sport.

Andrew's case experience

Medical negligence claim: Andrew secured compensation of £25,000 for a client who contracted pneumonia and empyema after medical staff failed to administer antibiotics to treat a chest infection. The failure left the client with a chronic chest problem.

Medical negligence claim: After prolonged periods of pain and suffering the mother of another client died after she received inadequate treatment at a hospital. The NHS denied liability despite being strongly criticised by a coroner. Andrew secured expert medical evidence in support of the claim and served legal proceedings on the NHS trust. The claim was settled shortly after.
