Katrina Rowan is a senior solicitor at Thompsons and is based at the Nottingham office managing asbestos-related disease claims from across the East Midlands.
Katrina has more than 20 years legal experience and has come to specialise in cases for clients who have been exposed to asbestos after working on a range of different personal injury claims, including accidents, assaults and other industrial diseases.
The range of asbestos claims Katrina is instructed in include employer’s liability, occupier’s liability, public liability/secondary exposure, T&N claims, and DMPS claims. The asbestos-related conditions Katrina’s clients may have include mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and pleural thickening.
Katrina’s uses her considerable expertise to achieve the maximum compensation for her clients within the shortest time possible, particularly for those suffering with mesothelioma. Being conscious that the court system in the UK offers only a financial remedy to her clients, despite their having been exposed through no fault of their own and now facing a devastating diagnosis, Katrina places great emphasis on the support and guidance she can offer to families at a difficult time working closely with asbestos support groups such as Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST).
When she isn’t working on asbestos claims Katrina supervises colleagues working on assault cases within the Nottingham accident team.
For Katrina, the most rewarding thing about working for Thompsons is the ability to work in partnership with her clients, their families, trade unions and support groups, all of whom are dedicated to only acting for the injured and never for employers or insurers.
In her spare time, Katrina enjoys travel, socialising, reading, spending time with family and friends.
Katrina's case experience
- Secured £265,000 for a 63 year old man who developed mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos as an apprentice carpenter. In addition to damages, Katrina secured an agreement that the defendant should pick up the cost of any future private medical treatment, including immunotherapy recommended by his treating oncologist.
- Successfully acted for a widow who brought a claim on behalf of her late husband, who had stripped asbestos lagging when working in power stations and sadly died of asbestos-related lung cancer, securing £127,500 in compensation.
- Settled an 11 defendant litigated action for over £19,000 on a provisional damages basis for a 78-year-old with asbestosis and pleural thickening who had, over his career, worked as a scaffolder for a variety of employers.
