Based at Thompsons Solicitors’ Newcastle upon Tyne office, Ellen Hunter takes a wide range of personal injury and accident at work claims from all over England and Wales.

Ellen has 18 years of experience in her specialism, 16 of them at Thompsons. She takes largely “fast track” cases which normally involve compensation of between £10,000 and £25,000, but part of her caseload involves complex claims worth substantially more.

Ellen’s clients have suffered a range of serious injuries involving multiple orthopaedic trauma, burns, scars and loss of limbs. The injuries have been sustained in road accidents, civil and sexual assaults and accidents at work. Her work also includes injuries sustained at sea by both seafarers and passengers. The caseload covers both employer’s and public liability claims.

Ellen insists on going the extra mile for her clients to secure the largest possible settlement in the quickest possible time. She also values building personal relationships with clients who are invariably undergoing a traumatic period in their lives.

Away from work, Ellen loves gardening, photography, horse riding and car shows.

Ellen's case experience

Ellen secured a ten-fold increase in compensation offered to a girl (legally a “minor”) who sustained an injury to her lower back while out rowing on the River Tees. Initially offered £5,000 in compensation, Ellen won a settlement of £50,000.

Twenty eight-year-old coach driver Steven Nicholson employed by Veolia Transport received £6,000 in compensation after his foot was crushed in a workplace accident. Mr Nicholson, from Thornley in County Durham was forced to take two months off work following the accident at Skipton Coach Park.

Mr Nicholson, who is now a truck driver, suffered severe crush injuries and nerve damage. His foot was put in a cast and he needed physiotherapy to help it recover. He has been left with a loss of feeling in his foot and a residual scar. Veolia accepted liability and settled the claim out of court. The full story can be found here.

Accident at work claim: Ellen won a £19,000 settlement for a seafarer who suffered an injury to his left shoulder while attempting to move faulty equipment aboard ship.

Accident at work claim: An employee received £24,000 in compensation after he slipped on ice at work sustaining cracked ribs, a fracture to the spine and an injury which worsened an existing problem in his right shoulder. The employer had failed to take reasonable safety measures during freezing weather conditions.
